Most concrete damage around here starts under the concrete, not on top of it. The clay soils in East Texas swell and shrink with the weather, and a slab that was poured over a base that could not handle that movement will crack, settle or lift.
That is why a repair starts with working out what caused the damage. Some of it is surface wear and can be fixed where it is. Some of it means the ground underneath has moved, and a patch on top will crack again along the same line.
We come out, look at it, and tell you which one it is — whether that ends in a repair or in replacing a section — with a written quote within 24 hours.

WHY SLABS CRACK HERE
Built for East Texas clay
Concrete does not crack because it is weak. It cracks because the ground under it moves — and East Texas clay swells when it takes on water and shrinks when it dries out, every single season. You cannot stop that. What you can do is build for it.
- 01
Compacted, stabilized base
The slab is only as steady as what it sits on. We compact and stabilize the base so the ground under your concrete behaves predictably instead of moving with the seasons.
- 02
Rebar on chairs at mid-slab
Rebar lying on the ground does almost nothing. Set on chairs at mid-slab depth, it sits where the tension actually is and holds the slab together when the ground shifts.
- 03
3,000-4,000 PSI MIX
A stronger mix costs more per yard and is worth it here. It resists the stress that seasonal ground movement puts on a slab in this part of Texas.
- 04
Control joints cut on schedule
Concrete will crack. Joints cut at the right time — not whenever someone gets back to it — decide that it cracks along a straight line you chose rather than across the middle of your slab.
FAQ
Concrete Repair questions
Can cracked concrete be repaired, or does it need replacing?
It depends on why it cracked. A thin crack in a slab that is still level is common and often only cosmetic. A section that has sunk, lifted or broken into pieces usually means the ground under it moved, and patching the surface will not stop that. Telling those two apart is the first thing we look for on site.
Why does concrete crack so much in East Texas?
Because of the clay. It swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries out, so the ground under a driveway or patio keeps moving through the year. Concrete does not bend with it, so it cracks.
Can you replace just the damaged section?
Often, yes. When the damage is confined to one part of the slab, cutting out that section and pouring it back can cost less than replacing all of it. When the problem runs under the whole slab, we will tell you that instead of patching something that will fail again.
Do you charge to come look at it?
No. The on-site estimate is free, and the written quote comes within 24 hours.
